Join International Anti-Street Harassment Week Campaign in Afghanistan

Dear Friends,

We are inviting you to use your voices and stories and join Daughters of Rabia/Free Women Writers this year during International Anti-Street Harassment Week on April 10th-16th, 2016.

We all know that street harassment is a huge issue for women and girls in our country. It is not only a violation of our human rights but it also prevents many from going to work or school and being in public spaces without fear. Afghan women and girls deserve better and our fathers, brothers and partners are capable of behaving better.

Street harassment is prevalent and often dangerous in Afghanistan, but it is not one specific to our country. From New York to Cairo, from Kabul to Melbourne, women and girls everywhere are humiliated, harassed and physically, sexually and verbally attacked every day. We, as a human race, can and must do better!

This is why we want you to be part of a global campaign. And it is super easy.

Harassment does not make you a man.
Harassment does not make you a man.

All you have to do is send a photo of yourself- or just your hands (we are aware of security issues)-holding a sheet of paper with a message to a harasser written on it to [email protected] by March 15, 2016.  You can also send us your photos via Facebook or Twitter.

The text can be in any Afghan language or in English. We will share all the photos on our various social media pages, the platforms of our partner organizations and on newspapers that we are collaborating with in Afghanistan to support the public conversation about this issue.

It is really that simple to raise your voice. So join us!

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or suggestions.

We are so excited for your photos!
