I’m My Own Hero

Hosnia Mohseni

Respected Sir,
I have never asked a lot of you.
Just for one day, step outside on these damned roads
As a woman
To see how the streets and the people
Seek to fight me for my gender.

For one day, feel the pain that kills me every day,
Watch the stares that tear me to pieces every day,
Hear the words that make my life hell every day.

Until you are a woman, you will not feel
How hard it is to be a woman
I the city I breathe in
And the streets I walk on.

Don’t attempt to save me.
Don’t pity me.
Simply understand me.
I learned to fight in my mother’s womb.
I am my own hero.
